(CLA) Conjugated Linoleic Acid
July 4th, 2007 by Paul JohnsonCLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is a supplement the last few years that has gotten a lot of attention among bodybuilders and athletes for it’s health and body composition effects.
About CLA
CLA is a altered form of Linoleic acid(LA), an Omega-6. Conjugated Linoleic acid can be found in significant amounts in dairy products and meat. It was first researched when rats in 1988 were fed fried hamburger. During this study, the noticed CLA’s powerful anti-cancer effects.
Effects of CLA
CLA was found to not only have anti-cancer properties but many other powerful effects on the body. Some of the effects are: enhanced immune system function, reduces food allergies, lowers insulin resistance, lowers cholesterol & triglycerides.
CLA and bodybuilding
As you can see CLA can be a potent fat burner through its ability to lower insulin resistance, and raise your metabolism. The ability to increase immune system means you are less likely to get sick. This is especially important to bodybuilders when your immune system is vulnerable during cutting or steroid cycles.
CLA was also shown to enhance muscle growth. It decreases the lean to fat ratio in the body, and reduces fat in the abdomen area. This is due to it’s insulin tolerance lowering effects.
CLA in diet
Unfortunately, today’s cows which are fed on feed lots have significantly lowered levels of natural CLA in them. However, grass fed cows do have the normal levels of it. You can find grass fed cows through buying organic beef meat and milk. You
can also buy CLA in supplement form.
