Does Tryptophan Help Depression?

September 6th, 2007 by Paul Johnson

Tryptophan is a regular amino acid, so it may be hard to believe that it would really help much in treating depression. Tryptophan is a pre-cursor to 5-htp, which is the pre-cursor to the powerful mood neurotransmitter serotonin. In theory, 5-HTP should work better than tryptophan in treating depression and mood problems, since it is the direct pre-cursor to serotonin. You can read my previous blog post on 5-HTP here.
